Especialista en dolor orofacial, investigador y educador. Professor del Department of Diagnostic Sciences, Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Dentistry, Nueva Orleans. Director del LSU Orofacial Pain Continuum, un programa integral de educación continua de posgrado en dolor orofacial para clínicos en ejercicio. Anteriormente fue Assistant Professor y Director de la Oral Medicine/Orofacial Pain Clinic, University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Dentistry (2005–2011). Antes de la carrera académica: 22 años de práctica odontológica general desde las perspectivas de salud pública y práctica privada (1980–2002).
Autor y coautor de más de 80 publicaciones revisadas por pares sobre dolor orofacial, trastornos temporomandibulares, síndrome de boca ardiente y cefaleas. Autor de más de 25 capítulos de libro en los principales textos de odontología y medicina del dolor. Colaborador del Merck/MSD Manual (Professional Edition) en el área de dolor orofacial. Coeditor de tres textos de referencia fundamentales: Orofacial Pain: Guidelines for Assessment, Diagnosis, and Management (AAOP, 7th edition, Quintessence, 2023); Manual of Temporomandibular Disorders (Wiley-Blackwell); y Temporomandibular Disorders: A Translational Approach from Basic Science to Clinical Applicability. Associate editor y revisor editorial de múltiples revistas de odontología y medicina del dolor.
Past President de la American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP). Fellow de la AAOP.
