Director Médico de Clínica SanzMar, Madrid, una práctica especializada en periodoncia e implantología. Coordinador de cursos de formación continua en Periodoncia e Implantología en la Sociedad Española de Periodoncia y Osteointegración, SEPA, y la UCM. Miembro de la Fundación SEPA.

Uno de los investigadores más citados del mundo en terapia periimplantaria, cuidado periodontal de soporte y resultados implantológicos a largo plazo en pacientes periodontalmente comprometidos.
Autor de estudios clínicos longitudinales de referencia que siguieron la supervivencia de implantes durante 10 a 20 años en pacientes tratados por periodontitis, investigaciones que han dado forma a la base de evidencia actual para la selección de pacientes, los protocolos de mantenimiento y el manejo de las enfermedades periimplantarias. Su artículo de 2018 que co-definió la salud periimplantaria, la mucositis y la periimplantitis para el World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases, publicado en Journal of Periodontology y Journal of Clinical Periodontology, ha sido citado más de 1.750 veces y se encuentra entre las publicaciones más influyentes de la implantología moderna.
Autor de más de 200 publicaciones científicas revisadas por pares y coautor de varios libros de texto y revisiones sistemáticas sobre el manejo de enfermedades periimplantarias.
