Profesor emérito en Kristianstad University, Suecia, y uno de los principales investigadores clínicos del mundo en periimplantitis, con más de 25 años de investigación continua sobre su epidemiología, indicadores de riesgo, diagnóstico y resultados del tratamiento. Su artículo de 2018 que co-definió la salud periimplantaria, la mucositis y la periimplantitis para el World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases, publicado en Journal of Periodontology y Journal of Clinical Periodontology, ha sido citado más de 1.750 veces y se encuentra entre las publicaciones más influyentes de la implantología moderna.
Autor de más de 200 publicaciones científicas revisadas por pares y coautor de varios libros de texto y revisiones sistemáticas sobre el manejo de enfermedades periimplantarias. Su investigación también abarca halitosis oral, salud periodontal en poblaciones mayores y asociaciones sistémicas de la periodontitis. Es coautor del influyente libro de Quintessence Peri-Implantitis junto con Giovanni Edoardo Salvi y Nikos Donos.
Docent y PhD por Malmö University y Lund University, Suecia. Honorary Professor en Dublin Dental University Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, China, y Blekinge Institute of Technology, Suecia.
