– Dental casts: printed or in plaster
– Impression taking techniques: digital impressions vs analogical impressions
– Pliers selection: bird beak, straight plier, half round plier, etc
– Wires selection (0.7mm/0.0028, 0.8mm/0.0032, 0.9mm/0.0036)
– Minimum prerequisite of casts to construct functional appliances
– Protocols of wire bending. Basic wire bends:
- "U" turn
- Bend by 90°.
– Force application.The contact point of the appliance with the tooth:
- Bodily movement
- Inclination.
– Designing and positioning of the expansion screw on the functional orthopedic appliance
– Fabrication of Coffin spring
– Dealing with acrylic materials
– Grinding and polishing of acrylic.

Profesor adjunto de Ortodoncia y Ortopedia Funcional de los Maxilares en la School of Dentistry de Arnaldo Jansen Faculty en Belo Horizonte, Brasil, y profesor en la School of Dentistry de Unicentro Promove. Su enfoque clínico y de investigación abarca ortopedia funcional de los maxilares, trastornos temporomandibulares, oclusión dental, medición de fuerza de mordida, crecimiento craneofacial y la aplicación de bioingeniería y nanomateriales en el desarrollo de dispositivos dentales.
Posee un PhD en Mechanical Engineering con concentración en Bioengineering por la Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, UFMG. Su investigación une odontología e ingeniería en el desarrollo y validación de aparatos ortopédicos funcionales, incluido un estudio retrospectivo sobre resultados de tratamiento con ortopedia funcional en pacientes con TMD publicado en el Journal of Jaw Functional Orthopedics and Craniofacial Growth. Es coautor del Atlas of Construction of Orthopedic Functional Appliances, edición en portugués. Es miembro de la Academy of Dentistry of Minas Gerais.
