Former Dean of the School of Dentistry at The University of Western Australia and Director of the Oral Health Centre of WA (2003-2009). Editor-in-Chief of international journal Dental Traumatology since 2015.
Over 45 years of academic and clinical experience in endodontics and dental traumatology. Recognized internationally as one of the world's leading authorities in management of dental trauma, tooth resorption, and endodontic treatment outcomes. Extensive teaching responsibilities including graduate-entry Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program and postgraduate Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) programs in Endodontics and Dental Traumatology at UWA. Teaching topics include endodontics, dental traumatology, tooth resorption, pain control, emergency management of oral and dental problems, antibiotic prescribing, use of analgesics and NSAIDs, diagnosis, pulp testing, and treatment planning.
International lecturer having presented over 800 lectures and courses in 43 countries on endodontic treatment, dental trauma management, diagnosis and treatment of tooth resorption, vital pulp therapy, regenerative endodontics, and evidence-based endodontic protocols. Published over 195 articles in peer-reviewed international journals including Journal of Endodontics, International Endodontic Journal, Australian Dental Journal, and Dental Traumatology. Authored 23 textbook chapters on endodontics and dental trauma for major international textbooks.
BDS. Specialist registration in Endodontics. Received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and service to the dental profession, particularly in education and research. Appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2015, one of Australia's highest civilian honors, recognizing distinguished service to dental health through tertiary education, research and clinical practice, and contributions to professional organizations. Editor-in-Chief of Dental Traumatology, the official journal of International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT), since 2015. Member of IADT and Australian Society of Endodontology. Maintains private practice limited to endodontics in Perth, Western Australia.
