Especialista en dolor orofacial con práctica de investigación enfocándose en mecanismos de dolor, neuroplasticidad y trastornos temporomandibulares.

Más de 35 años de experiencia clínica, docente e investigadora combinada en dolor orofacial y función mandibular. Pionero en campo de neuro-odontología desde perspectiva fisiológica. Investigación enfocada en mecanismos de dolor orofacial periférico y central, neuroplasticidad, fisiología motora trigeminal, aplicaciones de imágenes cerebrales en TMD, capacidad adaptativa del sistema estomatognático y evaluación psicofísica de dolor muscular mandibular y articular temporomandibular. Experto en integración sensoriomotora, efectos de cambios oclusales en estructura y función cerebral, y rehabilitación sistemática de función oral.

Uno de investigadores más prolíficos del mundo en dolor orofacial con 453 artículos publicados en revistas internacionales revisadas por pares, 58 capítulos de libros y actas publicadas, 15 artículos en revistas nacionales y 18 editoriales. Co-fundador y Miembro de Steering Committee de Scandinavian Center for Orofacial Neurosciences (SCON, 2014), centro de investigación colaborativo entre Aarhus University, Karolinska Institutet y Malmö University. Ex Presidente de Special Interest Group on Orofacial Pain, International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP, 2008-2010).
