Pionero de Regeneración Ósea Guiada (GBR), realizando primera cirugía GBR en University of Bern en octubre 1988. Co-desarrollador de superficie de implante micro-rugosa SLA (sandblasted, large-grit, acid-etched) con Straumann, revolucionando oseointegración y convirtiéndose en superficie estándar de oro mundialmente. Experto en procedimientos de regeneración ósea, GBR simultánea y escalonada con colocación de implante, protocolos de implante post-extracción inmediatos y retardados y manejo de casos de implante de zona estética. Investigación enfocada en investigación traslacional en odontología de implantes, materiales y técnicas GBR, modificaciones de superficie de implante, prevención de periimplantitis y resultados a largo plazo de procedimientos regenerativos.
Ex Presidente de European Association for Osseointegration (EAO, 1996-1997) e International Team for Implantology (ITI, 2009-2013). Laskin Award (1996), Honorary Membership Award de American Academy of Periodontology (1997), Brånemark Osseointegration Award de Academy of Osseointegration (2013), e ITI Honorary Fellowship (2017). Editor y autor principal de famoso "GBR Book" publicado por Quintessence (3ra edición, noviembre 2021), referencia definitiva sobre regeneración ósea guiada traducida a múltiples idiomas. Autor y co-autor de más de 400 publicaciones y capítulos de libros en revistas revisadas por pares. Conferenciante internacional habiendo presentado más de 1,000 conferencias mundialmente sobre técnicas GBR, tecnología de superficie de implante y cirugía de implantes basada en evidencia.
