Direct composite restorations are functional, highly aesthetic, and long-lasting only when performed using the correct protocols.
This practical course, led by Dr. Jason Smithson, is designed to empower clinicians with simple, efficient, and predictable strategies for placing natural-looking direct composite restorations, based on evidence-based approaches and 25 years of clinical experience with adhesive materials.
Key topics of the seminar include:
— Shade selection and defining translucency, opacity, and opalescence for aesthetic composite restorations
— Predictable bonding strategies for long-lasting restorations
— Polychromatic layering techniques for highly aesthetic restorations
— Simple finishing protocols that produce polished, natural-looking enamel effects.
During the hands-on session, you will:
— Perform Class I composite restoration: from preparation to finishing and polishing
— Create natural-looking central incisor composite veneers using the polychromatic layering technique.
You will gain practical, step-by-step techniques to create direct anterior and posterior composite restorations that are not only durable and functional but also highly biocompatible and exceptionally aesthetic.
IMPORTANT: the “Standard” ,“ Comfort” and “VIP” participation options are also available for purchase.
Basic advantages of the “Hands-on” option:

Program
Theory
— Shade selection: demystify the science and use it as a practical everyday tool
— Translucency, opacity, and opalescence: why all composite resin is not created equal
— Opaque dentin shades: when and where to use them…and why
— How to implement modern high-tech instrumentation such as particle abrasion and sonic activated preparation tips
— Preparation design and instrumentation to realize durable resin restorations, which have margins invisible to the human eye
— Predictable bonding strategies
— Flowable composite as a liner: when where and how? With supporting research
— A simple, rapid, yet novel concept to make incisal edge shade and effects obvious and effortless
— Simple, intuitive finishing protocols, which allow the operator to produce highly, polished restorations, which mimic natural enamel.
Hands-on
(The hands-on session is carried out on typodonts)
— Class I restoration using a single shade of composite resin:
- Mastery of composite instrumentation techniques
- Establishment and refinement of proper anatomical form
- Control of contours and occlusal morphology.
— Rapid, efficient direct resin veneer on a central incisor:
- Tooth preparation protocols
- Polychromatic layering techniques
- Finishing and polishing for optimal aesthetic outcomes.
